Daisy flower blanket

These beautiful blankets were made by my mum when she was waiting to have me. She was in hospital for at least six weeks to ‘rest’ but spent all her time knitting and crocheting this and the one below. They have both been kept so carefully and are as perfect as the day they were made. Aren’t we lucky?!

Vintage daisy blanket

This was to go in the rocking cradle that my dad made and to match the yellow, white and black Marimekko blinds mum made. I’ll photograph them one day when I’m back home. They still look good after all these years.

Inspirations

Blogged under Knitting by castoncastoff on Wednesday 25 October 2006 at 10:59

I am spending my winding down time in the day looking through pattern books and trawling the net looking at all the wonderful creations out there and lining up the dream list of things I’d love to make. Most of them I know I never will but you can have fun trying, right?. I also used to think that I was a prolific knitter until I started blog watching!

Anyhoo, I was blown away this week by both of these items:- Fig and Plum’s victorian baby chemise and Yarn Harlot’s wedding shawl. What’s inspiring you?

ETA: I’ve been having quite a few enquiries from people, I just to make it clear to everyone that I have no affiliation with POP. I’m merely a fan. If you have any queries or questions please contact them directly through their website. Thanks folks.

It’s not often I go shopping these days and I rarely get excited about it. However, we went off today to Brent Cross and were steaming through all the other mothers with buggies but was stopped in my tracks when I saw these (see below) snails looking at me. This would have to be the best store and they only opened last Thursday apparently. They have a few other concessions in House of Fraser across the UK but this appears to be the only store in London I could see from their website. They do some adorable clothing for babies and children and some of the maternity wear looked ok as well.

Swedish goodies

There’s nothing like swedish design, eh?! We love it!! I bought some wee baby gifties as well as this top and legging/pants for Coco. I could have spent some serious money in there………..but go and check it out if you’re local. It’s fantastic.

Snail leggings

It’s so hard to find anything other than pink for girls, isn’t it?

Boat Neck Sweater

Baby Knits for Beginners Debbie Bliss
2 and a half balls Cashmerino Aran pale pink
6-9 months
5mm circs.

This was so quick and easy. A shame I took so long in sewing it up. I’m hoping the recipient’s Mum is now embracing pink like I had to! Hopefully it’s cold enough on the odd day in a Sydney winter to wear it. It’s been too long since I was there at that time of year.

Am still plodding along after a short hiatus on the Alphabet Blanket edging………..It will be worth it in the end. Thanks for your support and advice, Amelia. Check out hers, here. If I look at the finished article enough, it should spur me on to get it done and then I can start something else for a little person. Coco has plenty to wear at the moment, so I’m still gift knitting but then there’s Mystical Stripe to finish off………

No camera

Blogged under Knitting by castoncastoff on Wednesday 11 October 2006 at 20:46

Silly me left our digital camera at my in-laws this past weekend, so won’t have any visuals for you on my latest knitting content for some weeks to come. I’ve almost finished extending the kimono top as it’s too short, have got to the third side of the alphabet blanket and am making something else for a special babby who is about to arrive in our world. That’s all from me for now. May drag myself along to K&S show at Ally Pally but will have to see how I feel…..the bank balance is telling me NOT to go! :-)

Over the edge

Alphabet blanket edge detail

I know I will finish this eventually but it’s taking me forever. It took most of the weekend to finish one edge. The triangles look great but they’re rather fiddly to knit, especially when I’ve got to knit them on full length 2.75mm pins. I do have some 30cm 2.5mm Addis that I picked up at K&S in Brum……maybe I should try them and see how much of a difference they make to the size of the triangles. Perhaps it’s worth a go for my sanity!

Kimono cool

Kimono cool

Garter Stitch Wrap Top
Simple Knits for Cherished Babies Erika Knight
Schoeller & Stahl Fortissima Socka Shade 6521
3mm pins

It has finally got cool enough to put baby Coco in her kimono top just before she grows out of it. The troosers made by Al’s fair hands match perfectly, but I’ve just had to take out the leg elastic as someone has rather larger legs than expected for her age. I made another of these but it was far too small for her even though she was premature.
