Field of Flowers baby jacket Heirloom Knitting

This is so light and just beautiful. Although I need to make her something dark-ish to wear underneath so you get the full effect of the lace.

I am knitting but in dribs and drabs, basically when I get half an hour! I have started the border on the alphabet blanket, so will hopefully get that done by the end of the weekend. It doesn’t look all that flash at the moment but wait until it’s washed and blocked!

What the.........

Ok folks, I need you all to look very carefully at this here..thingy. Well, what is it exactly? I know you’re asking how I came by this amazing piece of tack. Well, there is a lady who lives nearby who asks for some of my lavender from the hedge when it’s ready to crop each year. I happily oblige because I don’t do much with it and there’s always tonnes. Anyway, she very proudly presented me with this the other day to say thank you and that she had made it herself. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am very grateful for the thought but it’s definitely a candidate for Room 101 or the TACK challenge that took place in Oz a couple of months ago. Although, this isn’t tack from crap, it’s crap from crap. Is there a hidden meaning here? Is it symbolic? Could you honestly sell this? I have seen bracelets with the blue and white eye on before. Is it to do with the all seeing eye? All ideas on a postcard please……….

TILT - Thirty four

Orchids

Unfortunately, I don’t have the time nor the inclination to write 34 things about me. A 9 week old doesn’t leave you with much time to do anything too taxing. Anyway, I am incredibly grateful and thankful to my family and my husband. The last 18 months have been very hard on us and I am so very lucky to have such a beautiful, healthy daughter, who brings me so much joy. A girlfriend of mine wrote in my birthday card that birthdays take on a new meaning once you have a baby and they should be more about the mother. So, she will be thinking of my Mum pushing me out 34 years ago! It’s so true, isn’t it?

I also share this day with the lovely Noo at Spitting Yarn, so head on over and send her some good wishes too!

Here’s the little lady in the bouncy chair a friend of mine gave me, which I re-covered last week. I used the leftover curtain fabric and we had just enough to make it work with a few sneaky bits of piecing here and there. It’s been a real hit!

Lazy days

Blogged under Knitting, socks by castoncastoff on Monday 18 September 2006 at 23:08

Well, not so lazy, actually. With lots of visitors and my parents still here from Oz, we’ve been pretty busy of late. Apologies for not posting pics of the Cobweb Crepe Shawl yet….It will happen, just need the right light.

Mum knitting

We did manage to get to the opening day of the Brum Knitting & Stitching show. It was great for my folks to meet some alpaca producers and Mum was bitten by the sock bug. She reminded us all that there are a pair of crazy striped socks complete with toe that she made about 25 years ago in Patons Patonyle that are still going strong even after being machine-washed all that time! The show was ok but I think there will be more interesting exhibitors in London. I did acquire some beautiful Hipknits cashmere lace yarn (also saw Kerrie’s bump but she was teaching at the time), some lace weight hemp from House of Hemp (Mum was also very taken by their stuff), some circs for socks and needle point holders. Nothing too exciting but I feel a few shawls are in order. Perhaps something from Folk Shawls.

I am still working on the Alphabet blanket and got some done on that this weekend, so am most of the way there. It’s great having some other adults around to help out with baby Coco. If I can stay awake tonight to do some more that would really help then it’s off to the Borderline tomorrow night for Ryan’s gig. Can’t wait……….
