What to do?

Stripey wrap

Garter Stitch Wrap Top
Simple Knits for Cherished Babies Erika Knight
Rowan 4ply cotton - Bleached 113 & Ripple 121
3mm pins

This was a gem to make, apart from the fact that I was desperate to add stripes (so a load of ends to sew in) and the fact that I wanted longer sleeves! I had intended to use up a part ball of Ripple but ended up having to buy another because I thought I would sail too close to the wind. In the end, I think I would’ve been ok, so I might just get another one out of what I have left in the smallest size. I made the medium one but it still looks small. Anyway, I finished this two weeks ago and it’s been sitting around looking at me daring me to choose between the buttons you see in the shot or ribbon ties. I still can’t decide. Something about the buttons looks a bit much. One probably isn’t enough, but two isn’t right either (I prefer odd numbers), so you see three. I’d forgotten about these buttons until today. They used to be on a white linen shirt I made years ago when I first came to London and found Liberty. The shirt no longer fits and I salvaged them recently when I had a big chuck out. Decisions, decisions………

TILT - 11 May

Blogged under things i love thurs by castoncastoff on Friday 12 May 2006 at 13:23

This is a belated TILT because we’re suffering with colds and hayfever here and the computer hasn’t been feeling too good either of late!

Mizuna & Mustard

I never cease to be amazed at how quick the growing season here is in England. I planted this lettuce seed on Friday 21st April. I didn’t expect any of it to come up because most of it was out of date! But thought, I’d give it a bash anyway - what a bonus if anything actually appears. So, here we have some oriental lettuces - mizuna & red giant mustard. Shots are taken after one week then today at three weeks. Just incredible. I think the warmer weather interspersed with rain has helped enormously. I love watching things grow, especially things you can eat!

X marks the spot

It is really hard to photograph this. The colour isn’t right - it’s more of a pale apricot (not right with or without flash) Anyway, lots of grumpiness later, here’s a close up and a wide shot. I’ve been wanting to make this for a long time and have used some Rowan wool cotton that was bought for a cardigan for me but I went off the idea, so a good excuse to use it up.

I started with a provisional cast-on, so it will be a much smoother transition to knitting the border on that bottom edge. If you ever make this check out her website for pattern errata! Check out these finished ones for inspiration here and here

They call this ecru but it’s more of a stone. I used ALL of the 3 balls and had to make the sleeves slightly shorter to compensate, which was a pain. But it was a mega-bargain, I got these 3 balls at a John Lewis sale last year for a pound each! Not bad, eh? I know it’s cheap yarn but it’ll wash and wear well and was a perfect substitute for Rowan All Seasons Cotton.

I normally put a wooden toggle on this cardigan (I think this is #8 of these I made now) but I’ve been trying to find something to put these on for ages and the shape is perfect. I used the one on the RHS in the middle row.
